Outstanding Graduate Student Nomination and Selection Guidelines

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible graduate students, upon nomination by their advisor(s), are qualified for participation in the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (DAES) Outstanding Graduate Student Recognition. This includes separate recognition for Master's and Doctoral students. General eligibility criteria, specific criteria, and the evaluation process are outlined below.

I. General Eligibility

  • Graduate students within two semesters or less of graduation are eligible for nomination
  • Must have been admitted to candidacy
  • Minimum GPA: 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

II. Selection Criteria (Across Programs)

  • Publications, posters, and oral presentations at professional meetings (including PAWC), ranked by significance: peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, proceedings, conference presentations
  • Awards received
  • Involvement in departmental, college, or university activities and mentorship
  • Community service involvement outside the university
  • Academic performance

III. Application Submission and Evaluation Process

  • The Graduate Student Selection Committee will include one representative from each program area (Agricultural and Resource Economics, Animal and Poultry Science, Environmental Science, Plant and Soil Science, Integrative Biosciences, and Integrative Public Policy and Development) and the Head of Department.
  • Each program unit must:
    • Select the best candidate based on advisor recommendations and criteria
    • Submit the selected student to the Graduate Student Selection Committee by April 1
  • The DAES Selection Committee will evaluate applications and announce winner(s) by April 15
